Stefan ("El Polaco") Zawistowski is a member of the New York tango community and has been dancing Argentine tango since 1997. Currently he is also a member of the Argentine Tango Teaching Staff at Sandra Cameron Dance Center, one of the major dance studios in NYC. . In 1999-2000 he moved to Buenos Aires to study with tango masters (Carlos Gavito R.I.P., Osvaldo Zotto y Lorena Ermocida, Nito y Elba, Gustavo Naveira, Eduardo Arquimbau, Guillermina Quiroga, Géraldine Rojas, Sebastian Arce y Mariana Montes, Nancy y Damian, Olga Besio, "Chicho" Frumboli, Fabian Salas, et. al.) and performed with a dance group formed by Olga Besio at "La Galeria de Tango". 2001 In 2001, together with the Buenos Aires native Beatriz Cisneros (DanceSport Studio) he started teaching and promoting tango in Queens, New York, performing, giving group and private classes, as well as organizing "La Practilonga" - a weekly tango practice dance event, featured in 2002 in the "Queens Courier". He was also a frequent guest on "Friends of Naomi Johnson" - a weekly T.V. show (Channel 56 - MNN Cable T.V.), promoting tango with other friends from the NY tango community. |

2002-2003 His tango performances include appearance with Beatriz Cisneros as featured artists during the annual "Star Search 2002" gala event in Natives Theatre, in Queens, NY, "Feria de Las Americas" an annual event organized by the Inter-American Defense Board, and sponsored by the Argentine Embassy, Naval Attaché Office, in Washington, D.C. (3 years in a row), "Tango y Vida" show, Natives Theatre, NY. Highlight of the 2002 season and a great honor was an invitation to perform at a Gala Reception on board of the Argentinian Ambassador Toll-Ship Fragata A.R.A. "Libertad" upon her calling at the port of New York in July, resulting in the Honorary Crew Membership of that great and beloved Argentinian maritime treasure. 2004-2005 In 2004 his performances included appearance with the world famous Bajofondo techno tango band in their one night only concert at the S.O.B. club in New York City (with Annatina Luck), in “Passion" (with Virginia Kelly) at Alborada Spanish Dance Theater, NJ; in "Players Theatre", Soho, NYC (Tsunami Victims Fundraiser) with Petia Maximova. Also during the First (2005) Annual New York-Meets-Boston Festival in Boston, MA (with Beatriz Cisneros) and in St. Maarten (Martinique), Carribean (Sept. 2005). In the same year he taught in DanceSport Studio, New York. 2006 In 2006 he performed in Shandalee Festival, NY, tto the Piazzolla arrangements by the world renowned pianist Cristiana Pegoraro with Sandra Buratti (Carlos Gavito’s partner in Buenos Aires, DancerSport Studio instructor in New York), in "A Taste of Tango" show with Maestro Raul Jaurena (bandoneon), Marga Mitchell (vocal), Octavio Brunetti (piano) and Sergio Reyes (violin) in Teatro Si, NJ. Also in Cristiana Pegoraro's October show in DiCapo Opera Theatre, New York City. December, 2006 - "Tango, a Living Story'' - a show by Sandra Buratti, with Hector del Curto (bandoneon), Octavio Brunetti (piano) and Juan Félix (vocal) in Dag Hamarskjöld Auditorium, The United Nations, NYC. |
