Stefan ("El Polaco") Zawistowski has been dancing Argentine tango since 1997. At the turn of the century he studied for twelve months in Buenos Aires with tango masters: Carlos Gavito (R.I.P.), Osvaldo Zoto, Gustavo Naveira, Guilermina Quiroga, et al. While living in Buenos Aires he performed with a dance group formed by Olga Besio at "La Galeria de Tango." He appeared three years in a row in "Ferias de Las Americas" festival sponsored by the Argentinean Embassy in Washington, D.C. He danced for the famous—Oscar winning—Bajofondo tango techno band at their only appearance in NYC. He performed for the world renown Italian concert pianist, Cristiana Pegoraro, as well as for the master bandoneon player Raul Jaurena, performing Piazzola arrangements in "A Taste of Tango" show in Evansville, Indiana, in "Tango a Living Story" at the United Nations or in "Tango: The Four Seasons" at Thalia Theatre in New York (over 40 performances). His most recent tango performances (June 4, 5, 6, 2009) include appearance with the legendary and internationally renown choreographer and tango (+ salsa, folklore et. al.) dancer Rosa Collantes and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Miguel Harth-Bedoya, with other acclaimed musicians (Grammy award winners Luciana Souza, Scott Tennett, et. al.), as part of a ten day latin american festival, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma. He is currently living, performing and teaching in New York City. He is a member of the Argentine Tango Faculty at Sandra Cameron Dance Center. He can be frequently seen at the local milongas. Stefan Zawistowski has recently authored a novel "The Petite Queen" (ISBN 978-0-578-01464-7). In the words of literary critics "... a spiritual treasure map with a tanguero beat. ...a true literary gem ... " or " ... an unforgettable journey of our times," his book is an original cautionary tale—at moments sensitively humorous—as well as a charming love-story with a touch of tango, and much more... |
